Mass Audubon Moose Hill Happenings, November 2011

 Free Star Party, Sunday November 20,  7-10pm  Join local astronomers and view the night sky through their big telescopes. The event is on-going, so drop in for the entire time, or just some of the evening. Park in the Nature Center lot and bring a flash light to follow the marked, self-guided path to find the viewing field. This program is cancelled if sky conditions are cloudy; call 781-784-5691 x8103 after 6 pm for a recorded message about the status of the program.  Family Program Free

Sunday Saunters  Sundays, 3 – 4 pm November 20; Turkey Search,     

Join us for a relaxed, on-the-trail interpretative walk featuring the themes listed above. Walks are cancelled in

inclement weather; call prior to attending if the weather is questionable. Bring your nature questions and sense of

wonder!   Family Program Free   

Kid Art  Session 1: Wednesday, November 9; 10 – 11:30 am   Session 2: Wednesday, November 9; 1 – 2:30 pm

Fee per session: $8 member, $11 non-member Bring your creativity and get ready to try a variety of art media:

paint, draw, and more. Use nature, or whatever inspires you, as your  muse. Stories and a short outdoor walk will complete this program.  Ages 4-6

Raccoons Session 1: Thursday, November 10; 10 – 11:30 am   Session 2: Thursday, November 10; 1 – 2:30 pm

What was that bump in the night? Could it have been a raccoon visiting your yard? Discover how this nocturnal bandit lives and is part of Moose Hill’s nightlife. Search for raccoon tracks and enjoy a story about this often misunderstood animal . Fee per session: $8 member, $11 non-member   Ages 4-6

Talkin’ Turkey  Session 1: Thur., November 17; 10 – 11:30 am   Session 2: Thur., November 17; 1 – 2:30 pm

Fee per session: $8 member, $11 non-member  Thanksgiving is just a week away. Discover how

amazing wild turkeys are and explore our forest for signs of this elusive bird. Gobble and strut while searching for a turkey’s meal. Make a turkey that could be dinner table’s centerpiece.   Ages 4-6

Nature Sounds Session 1: Wednesday, November 30; 10 – 11:30 am                                                                    Session 2: Wednesday, November 30; 12:30 pm   Moose Hill is alive with the sound of music! Come listen for

the chatter of red squirrels, the tweeting of birds, and more. Make a musical instrument to join in the music of the forest. Discover if an animal’s ear size make a different Fee per session: $8 member, $11 non-member   Ages 4-6

Art in the Park      Ages 6-11

Thursdays, 3:30 – 5 pm November 17; Animal Art

Use nature as your muse while creating art. Each class will  feature a variety of art media for budding artists to try based on the topics listed above. Each class may feature outdoor

time, so be sure to dress for the weather. Fee per session: $9 member, $12 non-member

Kitchen Science  Ages 6-11

Thursdays; 3:30 – 5 pm   November 10; Straws and String Science is everywhere! Use items from a typical kitchen to help in understanding the scientific method. Chemical Reactions will feature experiments that fizz, pop, and ooze. Straws and Strings will feature exciting experiments with the items in the title. Hot and Cold  will feature making home-made ice cream in a baggie and hot topics. Some experiments will be outdoors, so be sure to dress for the weather.  Fee per session: $9 member, $12 non-member

Wednesday Outings Ages 6-11

Wednesdays, 3:30 – 5 pm   Session 2: November 9 After a day in school, get ready to get outside and move! Hike, explore, observe, play games, and have fun while exploring Moose Hill. Participants will help decide the  group’s

Destination   for these monthly investigative walks. Dress for active outdoor exploration fee per session: $9 member, $12 non-member

Knee-High Naturalists 9:30 – 12 noon each date Give your child the gift of nature all year long! Each session includes stories, crafts, indoor circle time, and plenty of outdoor nature play.
