Wrentham Volunteers of the Year Announced

The winners of the Wrentham Volunteer of the Year awards were announced last night, with four residents being reconized for their roll in the community.

In the 18 and over category, Judy Ellis was given the award for her time spent as a volunteer in the kitchen of the Wrentham Senior Center. Ellis has spend the last 12 years working in the kitchen five days a week, for three hours a day.

When Selectmen Charles Kennedy asked others in the kitchen how many years Ellis had been volunteering, no one could come up with an answer as Ellis was the longer working member there.

In the Under-18 division, there were three awards as the committee could not narrow the winner down to one person. 

Friends Lauren McSweeney and Reily Magane were both given awards for volunteering at the Fiske Public Library for over 50 hours and working the snack bar for Wrentham Youth Baseball and Softball.

The two girls also volunteer for the TOPS Soccer program to help special needs children learn how to play soccer.

The final award went to Troy Neubecker who created and raised the money for the 9/11 Memorial that sits in front of Town Hall.
