5 Things: There's a Lot Going on at Local Libraries

1. Mother Goose will be on the loose at the Plainville Library today at 10:15 a.m. The program is for ages 0-2 and their caregivers and no registration is required. This is a structured 30-minute program with rhymes, finger plays, music and puppets. 
2. Nature will take over at the Plainville Library at 1:30 p.m. with Backyard Nature With the Audubon Society. This week, it is Bats for ages five and up.
3. The Norfolk Public Library will be holding a book discussion and time capsule building for students entering grades 7-12 today at 1 p.m. They will be discussing Jay Asher's The Future of Us and participants should bring photos, mementos and articles for the time capsule. The library is providing a container with the inside dimensions about the same size and shape of three stacked DVD cases.
4. Parents' Choice award-winning performer Davis Bates will be performing stories and songs for ages four and up. His performances are a mix of family, Native American, international and regional stories and songs. Bates has been performing in schools, libraries, festivals and community settings for more than 32 years. The program is free   
5. You might want to put this on your calendar as the Wrentham American Legion Post 225's Chicken BBQ will held Saturday, Aug. 24 at 592 South St. Post members will be serving BBQ chicken along with a variety of sides. The cost is $15 per person (two for $25, $5 for children 10 and under). There will be a horseshoe tournament, raffles, children's games and a fire truck on site. All proceeds will support various American Legion Post 225 veteran and community programs as well as scholarships for local students. For more information, call 508-384-2932.
