Operation Snowflake is a winter camping competition for Girl Scouts in grades 7-12, hosted by Dartmouth Troop 117. Fourteen troops from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut competed this weekend. Over the years, the competition has been attended by girls up and down the eastern seaboard. The girls pitched and camped out in tents. They also prepared and cooked all their meals outside. The confident and competent young women competed in several events: flagpole lashing, travois lashing and race, biathlon race (snowshoes and ‘snow’ ball throwing), fire-starting/string burning, compass, constellations, wood sawing, dogsled race, baking competition, and patrol flag design. They also added a new category this year, ‘friendliest’, which Troop 4922 won.

The girls from Cadette Troop 4922 who camped and competed were Elise Pereira, Candis Brodeur, and Lily Palframan, all of Plainville. Carla Pereira, Diane Pelrine, and Jeanine Gawthrope from troop 4348 assisted the girls. These girls earned six individual first place ribbons, First Place Cadette Patrol AND First Place Cadette Troop.

The girls from Senior Troop 4812 who camped and competed were Maille McGuire, Vanessa Imbaro, Casssie Lydon, Kat Livar, and Zaymee Syeda, all of Plainville. Missy Imbaro and Lisa McGuire are the leaders of this troop. These girls earned four individual first place ribbons. They also earned First Place Senior Troop.   These girls are in 9th grade, yet won in a category that encompasses grades 9-12.
