American Legion Auxiliary Unit 225 accepting item donations for homeless Veterans

To honor those who have served our country, American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 225 is seeking “Welcome Home Basket” item donations for our veterans throughout the holiday season.  “Welcome Home Baskets” are presented as housewarming gifts to homeless veterans who are transitioning into new homes.

Last year, with tremendous support from the community, ALA Unit 225 gathered enough items to create 10 housewarming baskets which included homemade afghans from the Wrentham Senior Center who are, again, enthusiastically supporting this year’s holiday season drive.  The baskets will be delivered to HomeStart, Inc., Boston, MA who, in partnership with the New England Center for Homeless Veterans (NECHV), conducts housing searches and placement for homeless veterans.

Desired household items include cleaning products, paper towels, sponges, small broom and dust pan, dishes and flat wear, oven mitts, cooking utensils, pans, can openers, plastic shower curtains with rings and bed linens (full or twin).

American Legion Auxiliary members have dedicated themselves for nearly a century to meeting the needs of our nation’s veterans, military and their families both here and abroad. They volunteer millions of hours yearly, with a value of nearly $2 billion. As part of the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization, Auxiliary volunteers across the country also step up to honor veterans and military through annual scholarships and with ALA Girls State programs, teaching high school juniors to be leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism.
