I'm hoping to drive my old beater into the ground before we need to get another car, but I'm on the lookout. What's your next car going to be?
My wife and I drive a perfectly good 2002 Nissan Sentra with 127,318 miles on it. "Stella" has four wheels and gets us from Point A to Point B. We've reached the stage in the life of the car where we don't repair body damage (as you can tell from the accompanying photo). I'm ashamed for my Dad to see it. But hey, it's paid for. Even though I'd love to get 200K miles out of Stella, she has some mechanical problems, like a seized bolt that has left the transmission fluid unchangeable for about eight years. She could conk out any old day. So we've been on the lookout for our next car. I'm paying attention to car commercials, asking friends about their cars. You know the feeling. Owner Michael Scouras shares his story of life in music and running a restaurant.
Michael Scouras has been at Nicky’s in Wrentham for more than a decade, but his travels had brought him a lot farther than that. “I used to work on the road, touring with bands,” he said. “I did that for 20 years.” He said he’s worked with legends such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Brian Adams and Pat Benatar, just to name a few. He went to more than 54 countries in that line of work. “It’s funny, because when I first started working in high school, I was at Ken’s Steakhouse in Framingham,” he said. “That’s how I started in this business and I ended up back in it after 20 years.” Though the life of a roadie may seem like a good life, Scouras said after a while it lost its appeal for him. “People are like you used to work in the music …

A smattering of business news in the region.
Wrentham Town Pizza a True Stroke of Luck Bill Shehata’s immigration to America, and subsequently coming to Town Pizza in Wrentham, was quite a lucky chance, very lucky in fact. “You apply for a lottery and they pick about 55 citizens from around the work,” he said. “My luck definitely got me there.” Shehata said he originally worked in a bus manufacturing plant in Egypt, and upon coming to the U.S., found manufacturing to be in short supply in 1995. “The job I found when I came was cooking pizza,” he said. “I was cooking in pizza places for about five years. They taught me the business.” Shehata said about that time he was looking to open his own business. “The guy before me, he was here 10 years and he wanted to get rid of it,” he said…

A CEO magazine ranks Massachusetts as one of the worst states in the nation for business. Chief Executive Magazine ranked Massachusetts 47th based on a survey of corporate leaders. Survey respondents reported the Bay State is one of the worst for taxation and regulation. The state Republican Party is pointing to the survey and saying that Gov. Deval Patrick and the Democratic-led Legislature are bad for the economy and business. What do you think about Massachusetts’ business climate? Is this a good state in which to do business?
