Morning Accident Shuts Down Rt. 495, Leaves One Needing Medflight

This morning, an accident forced a truck off the highway and into the woods near the West Street overpass.

A crash Monday morning has led to one injury and three more who were treated at the site of the accident according to Wrentham Fire Chief Jay McMorrow.

At approximately 8:57 a.m, a landscaping truck was forced off of Route 495 North a little past Exit 15 near the West Street overpass and into the woods after being hit by a tractor trailer truck that was trying to avoid an accident involving a passenger car and a limo.

Taking down three trees on its way into the woods, the truck had two passengers inside at the time of the crash. While the driver was able to make it out, two sets of jaws of life were needed to get the passenger out of the truck.

The man, who is a Whitman resident according to the Massachusetts State Police, received a MedFlight to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston to receive further treatment for his injuries that were not considered life threatening.

The driver of the truck and the passenger car also received minor injuries but refused treatment according to McMorrow.

The names of the other parties involved was not available according to McMorrow but the Wrentham Fire Department is working with the State Police to identify everyone involed in the accident.

The accident, which forced parts of the highway to be shut down, caused a four mile back up between Exits 14 and 16. All lanes were reopened at approximately 11:05 a.m.

To make matters worse, three more cars were involved in accidents as the highways was in the process of being closed. While one of the cars had to be towed away, there were no injuries.
